After exploring Bear Canyon, and lunching at Sticky Fingers Cafe & Bakery in Naches, we returned to the OCWA for a walk up the Tieton River Nature Trail. This trail is popular with birders, wildflower enthusiasts, mountain bikers, dog walkers, families, and climbers accessing the amazing Royal Columns - giant, perfectly formed columns of andesite.
The day was warm and sunny, and the river was flowing deep and fast. We were entranced by the geology and wildflowers (blooming with abandon) as well as the Lewis's Woodpeckers (what acrobats!) and even a little spooked encountering rattle snakes (one silent sighting, one rattle heard).
