12:00 PM, 7/11/2010, Lower Lena Lake – Am taking off now for Upper Lena Lake, having stopped here at the old outlet for a short break and a snack that could be called lunch. Altho the skies at the TH were cloudy, it is very clear and warm, tho breezy, here. It couldn’t be a nicer day. There are lots of people up here, mostly day hikers by the look, and I do see a few people making their way up the trail. Some hikers coming down told me they had been told there was still quite a bit of snow up at Upper Lena.

11:30ish, 7/12/2010, campsite #6, Upper Lena Lake – I couldn’t tell you if it is sunny or cloudy, as it keeps shifting  as clouds blow up the canyon, but the mountains over the lake are brightly lit under blue skies, with just passing wisps of clouds.  I arrived here in the early evening. The trail was only a bit brushy. Hit real snow just past the upper crossing, wehre the stream was running very high. I chose to go up over the hump and make a crossing well above the falls.  I found the climb up to be strenuous, and I had a painful night. While the weather yesterday was warm, it was very cold last night, and I would note the lake is still 100% frozen over.
