Birthday road trip to the desert! Spent my birthday enjoying a morning soak, a hike up to the top of Whitehorse Butte, and then, wait for it… an evening soak. Sublime time, all the way around.**
Spent a night alongside Arizona Creek, on Arizona Creek Rd, with an early start to a dayhike into the Pueblo Mountains. They are stunning. It’s not a vaste wilderness, but it offers quite a beautiful landscape. While I was prepared to spend the night, given the short distance I journeyed, I elected to hike out in the evening. It was quite lovely, hiking out Arizona Creek Canyon while the light played across the mountains and playas, culminating in sublime colors.
I closed out my trip with a daytrip to Bog Hot springs. Leaving, I thought, why not have a bit of fun and take this un-improved road out to the Lakeview highway? It was a fun little track. A bit of rough spots, and some wet spots, got good and muddy. Good 4-byin’ fun. Until the deep ditch between the end of the road and the highway. I had to backtrack the entire way. So instead of heading home via Lakeview, I came home via McDermitt. Still arrived at McDermitt on fumes.
(**Except for the agro survivalists shooting around the camping area and being generally creepy. Made for a short visit.)
